350: Festivity

Don't forget to take a little drive around the burbs of Brisbane at the moment and check out all the spectacular 4KQ Christmas lights entries. Winners have been announced and can be found here, if you're interested in seeing the best of the best festive displays. This pic is taken at one of the highly commended houses in Corinda. You won't miss it, the garden lights up the block! Pop on your Santa hat a take a peep.

342: Hearts of light

Tonight was an experiment to carry out a tutorial set by Katie of Color Me Katie. She has this nifty little trick of cutting out a shape on a small piece of paper. Placing it over the lens of the camera and taking a photo with quite a few light sources involved. A couple of hers have been of night time city scapes or massive Christmas trees, check them out here and here - lovely! As we have some fairy lights up around the house for Christmas I decided to bite the bullet and use them as my light source. What a dreamy result, gives the room a warm and inviting Christmas feel.

310: Hazy

Tonight I get a view from high up places. A birthday treat. I took the opportunity to photograph some of the surrounding. I'm a bit smitten with how the grounds around the church are a little hazy, the lights little white glowing dots and the traffic whizzing by. How atmospheric.

306: Speeding night light

Took the tripod out this evening and climbed this elvated path next to the main road I've been meaning to climb for a long time. For this exact reason! I knew I could get some great speeding night lights winding in and out along the river with a combination of the right settings and the tripod. What a lovely photo - perhaps one to add to the favourite pile.

219: Like paint running

Quick snap of the industrial lights reflecting across the river this evening. I love how it highlights the ripples in the water. Looks like paint running down a wet canvas.

I also wanted to mention. Earlier in the year, I took part in a challenge put out there by the magazine - Monsters Children. On the 25th April a whole bunch of people snapped a photo at 3pm. These were collated and posted in an online gallery. Click here if you'd like to see my entry (3rd down on the far left column of the grid). A number were chosen to be published in the photo issue, currently out in newsagents/bookshops etc. I wasn't lucky enough to be one of these people. But I was pretty darn excited to see my pic in the gallery!

065: Round and round the round-a-bout

Tonight I wanted to capture some serious movement and lights. What better opportunity than when I'm a passenger on the way to the supermarket. Stopped at the lights in front of a big round-a-bout I sat the camera on the dashboard at snap snap snapped as an exciting experiment to see what I could get. Not a 100% happy with it, I love the blurred car lights but am not so happy with the grainy light around the street lights. I think if my camera was set up on a tripod on the side of the road this may have helped improve the shot.

023: Captured by the light

This was probably one of my most spontaneous shots so far. I'm trying to get the hang of carrying my camera everywhere and snapping anything that crosses my path throughout the day that is possible 365 material. Anyway I was just heading to the bus after a spot of late night shopping and was delighted to see a warm purpley pinky sky upon exiting the shopping centre. It is only accentuated by the tones and lights of city hall. It's just a shame that modern (slightly ugly building is in the background)!
